Replacing the Brydon Boy.......

Hi all, just a quicky..... Will the Jabasco Compact fit as a replacement for the current Brydon Boy? I have spent all day trying to locate a leak and eventually discovered that the plastic pump has a few small hairline cracks and leaks when pumped - I guess the plastic has gone brittle after 35 years - I should write and complain! :)

ps if anyone in the USA has ever wondered why people complain about the UK - just have a look at the weather we have been having - It has not stopped raining for a month and we still have a drought law in force... no wonder I want to sail to sunnier climes!

Well, we are compensating for you. Here in the front range of Colorado we
worry about forest fire danger and (longer term) drinking water.

John,
I have the Jabsco Compact in Sin Tacha. The thing I like about this model is that it can be configured with the pump on either the right or left sides of the bowl.

The darn things don't last like your old one, though, and it's almost cheaper to buy a whole new unit on sale than to buy a rebuild kit! Also, the joints in the plastic pieces won't tolerate the pressure of a poorly aligned hose without leaking, so I used the most flexible sanitary hose I could find.

The 'new' boat is going to get one of these:

Hey guys, next message is # 20,000 !!!! Great forum :)

Thinking again...... !!!
I had a good look at the link Peter sent and I cannot get away from
feeling that it is a much better solution than a fixed sea toilet....
I spent ages cleaning my existing Brydon Boy and even longer buggering
about with sea cocks and a maze of pipes and vents but.... I believe
(and agree) that dumping sewage near to land is illegal and
irresponsible so I will need some sort of holding tank fairly soon
anyway.

The Thetford seems to have good capacity and would be a breeze to fit
and a breeze to empty and a breeze to keep clean and be clog free and
no need to worry about sea cocks and no need to worry about stinky
hoses and no need to worry about sea creatures being sucked up and
rotting in the pipework and if I prefer outside "ablutions" I can move
it into the cockpit and it is cheap...

Am I missing something or is this a no brainer?

John
