Replacing teak on 1983 O'day 25

The deck teal on my O'day 25 was shot so I purchased new toe rails, hatch cover runners and handrails. Sealing the old deck holes for the toe rails and runners does not seem to be a problem. However, for the handrails, if I drill new holes in the deck, I will also have to drill new access holes in the cabin overhead.

Is there a way to do some lining up so I do not have to drill new holes in the deck, access holes in the cabin overhead. If there was a better way to approach it, did not think to post it. Last teak I replaced was on. Tanner 22 and it was easy. Thanks. Dan

Thanks. That was my original plan. For the handrails, did you use the same deck holes and access holes in the cabin overhead. Was bending the rails for the curve from the cockpit to forward towards the mast a 2 man job. Thanks again, appreciate it.

Forgot to ask: the runners were shot and broke, so could not really use them for a pattern. Did you stay with the original deck holes. If you did any caulking, what do you recommend. Thanks again.

I just redid my teak so no teak bending was required of course. I purchased and cut new rubber gaskets below each handrail riser and the butyl tape on all bolts through the cabin. Used all existing holes but bought new stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts.

Hmm, the toe rails and hand rails all have a bend in them along the curvature of the edges and the handrails definitely has a curve to it as it goes forward. But you did not have to curve the teak for those?

Rudy from D&R told me the way the toe rails were installed at the factory was to put a fastener in the middle of the toe rail. Then move forward of that and set a fastener, then aft of that. Alternate out to the ends, bending the toe rail to fit, and then it's done. It will be good advice, because I was thinking of working from one end to the other...

Ya but I just redid my teak not replace it. I did replace my hatch rails but as we know those are straight.

I just refitted my teak handrails on my Oday 23. When I took the rails off to take them home and refinish them, the bend in them disappeared. When I reattached them (a story in and of itself; definitely a two-man job), it was no problem to rebend them.
