Some information
Hello Peter -A guy by the name of Chris Albertson has refinished the floorboards on his Mk 1 C36 and has some good information. I gleaned this from an email he sent to a C36 listserve, and hope he doesn't mind me sharing it here:"There are a few suppliers around. Cost about $150 per sheet plus a huge shipping and crating charge. It will take more sheets than you think as you need to make the lines match.H&L is the supplier of wood and wood parts to the catalina Factory. Call them. H & L Marine Woodwork, Inc. 2965 E. Harcourt Rancho Dominguez, CA 90221 Tel: (213) 636-1718 Fax: (213) 636-1720 E-mail: NoneI called and found it would cost about $600 for the wood so I thought I'd give re-finishing a try first. My pannels were so bad they were delaminating and I had to be carfull not to break them as they were so rotted out. They came out just fine. Take them down to bare wood with paint stripper and then that two part teak cleaner. Finish with epoxy and polyurathane varnish.H&L can also custom build you a new floor and I'm told that you can still get replacement floors from the factory but for well over $1000. I just took mine home (The boat sails just fine with no floor panels.) And worked on them in the evenings. I used about $150 worth of materials"I have considered refinishing or replacing the floorboards on my 1986 C36 as well, but this project is low on the list. The new dings that I've added since we bought the boat have made me feel good about waiting!Best,TrevorBest of luck,Trevor
