Has anyone has the opportunity to replace a stantion. Over this winter water and ice collected in gullies of my canvass cover and bent one stantion and seperated another from its base. I while I could have had them welded, I was fortunate to be able to locate two from Catalina, perhaps the last two.
My question is how to remove the old ones. I can reach under the side molding and with great difficulty feel most inward set of nuts but I can't seem to find the ouward set. I don't know if they are accessable from the inside. I even took off the molding in the salon but was unable to locate the nuts. Perhaps there are only backing plates under the outer bolts rather than nuts - unlikely but you never know. Catalina doesn't seem to know the answer.
If you have any info, I would greatly appreciate it
Jeff

By the way, when alll is said and done I will have 2 extra stantions that could be easily repaired. So if anyone needs one, just let me know.

I suspect replacing each stanchion presents it's own unique set of problems based on location, but I replaced the one located in the center of the port setteee about two years ago. I removed the wood trim & had to cut out some fibreglass with a rotozip to access all of the nuts but it wasn't difficult & only took about two hours including mounting the new one.

Thanks for the info. Now I know it can be done without any extensive demolition

I replaced the starboard stanchion, second one from the bow. I just unscrewed the mount bolts and set the new stanchion on shims, and reinserted the mount bolts. That was 5 years ago, and it's holding fine.
