I am trying to reinstall the main halyard sheave and shaft pin at the base of the mast. The pin came out along with the sheave and it looks like it should be held by a cotter pin inside the mast. That would mean that the mast would need to be unstepped to install the cotter pin through the shaft pin inside the mast. Is there another way of doing this without unstepping the mast? The shaft pin arrangement is the same on the opposite side for the jib halyard and spinnaker. If I wanted to change the sheaves how would I remove the pin?

Yes, Isomat Mast and Boom
Yes, the mast and boom are both Isomat. The base of the mast has a boss welded on each side to accomodate two sheaves. The clevis pin has a shoulder outside the boss and and a hole for a cotter pin at the opposite end (inside mast end).

We just unstepped the mast (Isomat) on our 86 H-31 to rewire, change out all pulleys, lights, etc., two weeks ago. The clevis pin holding the bottom pulleys do not have a cotter pin to secure the clevis. If you look closely, the end of the pin is hollow the first 1/4 inch (+/-) or so to the holes you observed. The holes are actually small slots. The pin is secured by a "safety pin," as per Isomat specs., in which the sides of this semi circular pin protrude thru the slots. It compresses when you insert the clevis and springs back thru slots when fully pushed thru the mast and pulleys - securing the clevis pin. If you lost yours, any "springy" wire cut to the proper length, and formed into a semi-circle, inserted into the bottom of the clevis,I am sure will work. If not Rig Right has them, and anything else you need for your mast.

Rig Rite Spring Pin Axle
The clevis pin that I found laying on the deck along with the Delrin sheave definitely had a rusted cotter pin through the hole of the clevis pin. I have since ordered a replacement spring pin axle for two sheaves to fit the Isomat mast base at a cost of over $40 each from Rig Rite. They must be for a sailboat!
