Replacing Seward H20 Heater Therm

Has anyone replaced the thermostat or the high temp guage on a Seward 6 gal water heater? If so, where/how'd you get the parts? Read on.. I think the Seaward water heater on my '93 H37.5 is overheating. The water is pretty much boiling when it comes out of the tap. Plus, this weekend the 30amp power inlet on the boat melted and nearly caught fire from an apparent overload (I was only running the cabing heater and H20 heater, which I have done many times before.) From the parts diagram I see there is the typical thermostat plus a high temperature guage or something like that (which is different from the high pressure relief valve.) I do not have the manuals with me so I can't order the parts until later this week. Thought I would check here first. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Mine is Hot Too

Don, I have the same water heater on my boat and the water comes out nearly scalding. My heater is about 2 years old. Apparently, the high temp is normal. Seaward does have a web site, see the link below. As far as the 30 amp power inlet is concerned, the most common cause of the overheating you experience is loose wiring connections to the inlet which create a high resistance connection. The high resistance generates considerable heat without tripping the shoreside or boat inlet breaker and more than enough to melt the inlet and or melt insulation on the wires. Periodically tighten the screw connections throughout your entire shore power system to prevent another occurance. Hope that helps. http://www.seawardproducts.com/ Rodney Kidd C-38 #297, Flying Bear
