Replacing Roller Furling sheet?

What type furler?

On what model boat?

1984 Catalina 30, I believe it's an older Harken model though I'm not sure. Basically, what I'm trying to find out is what the procedure is once you un-furl. Is there a brake or a set screw of some sort you can tighten so it doesn't furl itself while you're trying to change the sheet?-Jack

disconnect the sheets....

...then tie up the sail so it doesn't unfurl. Now you can spin it any way as much as you want. Of course you could just remove the sail, if you have to. The furling line (not sheet) can then be changed according to manufacturer's (or some other wise person's) instructions. Many riggers recommend removing the the furling line's core for the first 6 feet or so. That's to allow the first course of wraps around the drum to lie flat.
