Greetings... After trailering my H146 to Cape Cod Bay for 2 weeks of great sailing, I realize that I really must replace the very badly designed outhaul bracket (bale) at the end of the boom. In general, it seems that Hunter chose very poor hardware in a variety of places. For a boat that is designed to be easy to rig, why place those infernal and cheap rings with non-captive pins at the shrouds and forestay? If anyone has replaced these components, please share pictures or descriptions of your improvements. The mainsail outhaul line in particular will be shredded with just a few more times out, it seems. While under way, however, we had a blast - she sailed beautifully, and I never felt I was in danger of flipping, even with the rail buried a few times. Thanks all.

Hunter 170 -
Possible Solution

Tereza, As I have a 170, I am not really sure how the outhaul is rigged on the 146. I have attached an image of the rigging on the 170 that I have tuned and it appears to work well. Maybe the image will generate some ideas for your situation. Rusty

Replacing outhaul - Possible solution looks good!

Thanks Rusty - that looks simple and effective, and Matt confirms that it worked on his 146. Cheers!
