The outboard motor on my 1982 Catalina 27 (a two stroke Mercury 9.9 electric start0 has worn out. I need to replace it. The new four stroke engines are physically bigger than the old one. Is there a new enging available that will fit or are my only options to put a motor bracket on the stern or enlarge the hole in the stern where the outboard sits? Any advice to tmfulda@comcast.net would be appreciated.

eze slide is a good option

I just installed an eze slide this winter for my 4 stroke 15 hp honda. The advantage is that you dont need to fill in the outboard cutout, and it it structurally sound. It also provides for a long distance between up and down. Breeze industries will make one custom for you. The down side is it is a PITA to install the upper brackets which are up inside the hull near the hull-deck joint. http://www.breezeindustries.com/marine.htm
