Would anyone have information about whether the cabin cushions in this boat can be replaced? Are they a standard size for a Catalina 30? If so, where? The boat is in Albany area, NY, and we live in Weehawken, NJ. If not, can anyone offer information on the best way to get these cushions recovered? Perhaps, the foam should also be replaced considering the age. Thanks for your help. Connie

Recover

Connie & Pete; Either cover them yourself or farm it out to someone local. You do not need a "Marine" specialist to do these.Choose the type of fabric you need;mesh, waterproof, canvas, prints or plush whatever will fufill your needs. It can really make an incredible difference to the ambiance below no more dreary brown plaids or lines. My wife did it for our Hunter 30,she says its not as difficult as you might think. Our friends had a local seamstress recover theirs. Both boats were transformed! It is easy to substitute new foam either way if desired.Bottom line-Do It! You will not regret it. Fair Winds Clarke

check catalina for cushions.

i just received new cushions from catalina for my catalina 27 and saved about $500 from what it would have cost locally in the portland, or area. they are great and cost $995 plus shipping. the only problem is that they are limited in the fabric choices.

Doing it yourself...

I recently helped a friend redo cushions on his KP46. It took two days to do a _lot_ of cushions, and we had a good time doing it. Saved them a ton of cash, too. We chose to cut new foam instead of recovering. We figured if we were going this far, we might as well go all the way. Justin

Get new foam

Spring for new foam if you spend any time sleeping on your boat. Foam comes in various densities. We chose a firmer density and the difference it makes is amazing. Our's was original from '81.

Don't totally agree.

Clarke mentioned that you don't need a marine specialist. Well that is true if they understand the marine environment. Corroded zipper and mildew are not something that most upolstery people understand.
