Replacing old 4" electronics

I have a new-to-me O'Day 272, which I will sail in the California Delta and offshore along he coast.

I need to replace both my log meter and my depth sounder. Both use 4" cut-outs. I acknowledge that I can trim over or plug the holes in he bulkhead to use smaller units, but I would like to use units that replace in size as much as possible. The existing units are Standard Horizon/Standard Communications units. They are fully exposed to the elements. Obviously, I would like to avoid installing a new water speed sensor (transducer?). The only thing wrong with the existing units (probably) is that the receivers are fully sun-burned and the existing LCD screens are consequently inoperative... Both units use the same LCD screen...

1) Lets budget at around $300. What is possible?
2) I found some manufacturers with split-screen receivers with transducers and transponders for less than $300 (now, I can not find them). Got any advice, names, etc?
3) Any way to repair the existing receivers? (Models DS-1 and SL-1)
4) Because I will need to get a GPS, what are the best bets for multi-function units? I probably can do without a water speed indicator; so, a GPS can function to replace that (sort of). Also, I will not have to cut a new hole in the bottom of my boat or modify the existing... Should I get a bulkhead-mount GPS and a separate, bulkhead-mount depth sounder?

They'll fix your existing instruments, based on the model #s you noted, but you also said they're Standard .

The Standard one series instruments were made in the UK. Parts are no longer available. US Standard Horizon purchased the company and made the 45 series and the 50 series. I know the old One series wind transducer was not compatible with the US made units. However, it may be possible that the 45/50 series speed and depth units could work with the old transducers.... and there is a good possiblity that the newer units used similar sized tranducers if they aren't compatible. Look for the old 45 and 50 series... you must be persistent....

That said... there are shoot through the hull transducers on many depth units. And a good hand held GPS is indispensable. The GPS 76 series are very reliable and affordable.

Check out Moor Electronic's instruments. I replaced my dead SH apparent wind instrument with theirs. It was a straight drop-in for the 4 inch mounting hole. There one of the only ones making round instrument faces and at a reasonable price.
