Replacing ODAY 39 prop shaft

I am about to haul my ODAY 39 and plan to replace the prop, cutlass, coupling and Hurth transmission on a Universal 44. While I'm at it I should put in a new prop shaft. BUT...can I pull the prop shaft without removing the engine or the rudder? Any thoughts? Thanks Julian

About 20yrs later-its time to overhaul, I can see doing all the things you mentioned, but why the shaft? Is it damaged? Is it causing a problem? If not, why bother. If you really need to, you may need to drop the rudder. Although, I would first try to remove the prop, then see if you can pull it out. You may get lucky, and not need to. Good Luck
