Just bought a Hunter 170 and the non-skid is really discolored and I want to change it. Has anyone replaced their non-skid? What did you use to get up the old non-skid and where can you get new non-skid?

Possible source of the new non-skid

The non-skid that I have on my H216 was provided by my Hunter dealer. Contacting your Hunter dealer or the Hunter tech support about the new non-skid may be a good place to start. They should be able to tell you how to remove the old non-skid as well.

Can't clean it up ?

I use some liquid cleanser (lightly) and a scrub brush, it seems to do the job, removes scuff marks and brings back the whiteness. How would you even began to remove the old non skid ?.......I would be worried about damaging the deck. Good luck Glenn Ps, I used simple green in small amounts with a stiff brush.

Hmmmm....clean it?

Never thought cleaning it would whiten it up...might as well try before I go through the trouble of trying to replace. Simple green, huh. Will give it a shot and let you know how it works. Thanks for the thought.

Cleaning..........

I also use Soft Scrub with a stiff brush, it seems to work well. My hull is nice and clean, but after a day of sailing and all the scuff marks that I get on the deck, it looks pretty bad. I scrub it down with Simple green or scrub free for that nice clean white finish. Looks as good as the first day that it was delivered. I think you will like the results....... Glenn

another vote for simple green

Or, as I like to call it "Soylent Green". If you don't know the reference, ask a Charlton Heston fan.

Worked pretty good

Well, got the Green and it worked pretty good. Not as white as I would like but it did clean good. Now just have to scrub a couple more times to get the tannish discoloration out....thinking about trying some bleach and water....anyone know of a reason not to use bleach? Thanks for the idea...it was a hell of a lot easier than trying to get the non-skid up from the boat.

I'm not so sure of bleach !

I don't know about bleach and the effets that it would have on the composit hull !...... May be after using the simple green if you let the boat sit in direct sun light it would lighten up or become sun bleached ? I would have thought the Simple green would have done the job, maybe if you use the simple green at a stronger stregth ?........... the non skid that I have is not the same color as the hull there fore it does look more of an off white.
