Replacing motor mount on O'Day 222

I'm in the process of replacing the motor mount on my O'Day 222. I believe that the existing mount is the original equipment. I have the old mount off, but there is a fiberglass wedge mounted to the transom to which the original mount attached. It appears to be attached with an adhesive of some type and I need to remove the wedge before attaching the new mount. Does anyone have any experience with removing this? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dave

Not really attached on the 23

I replaced my motor mount on my '79 23 last year. The triangular spacing wedge was not affixed to the transom with adhesive, although the caulking around its edges did hold it on after the mount was removed. Since the bolts holding the mount go through the wedge into the lazarette, there really was no need for O'day to use glue or some other adhesive to hold the wedge on. If there is caulking around the edges of the wedge, try removing that and see if it frees up.

I agree--give it a try (but hold on to it)

I have a 1975 O'day 22 (not a 222) and the original motor mount was also attached to the transom with a fiberglass wedge/spacer in between. As Mike indicated, I also found the bolts passing all the way through the wedge into the interior of the hull. Upon removing the bolts, the wedge was essentially caulked/siliconed onto the hull and came right off with just a little prying/wiggling. As such--and as I removed mine with the boat still in the water--I strongly recommend that you hold onto that wedge well so as not to lose it in the drink. I suspect that little solid glass wedge would not be too easy to duplicate and/or replace. Again agreeing with Mike, I also suspect that the wedge on the 222 was attached in a similarly non-permanent fashion, relying more on the thru-bolts than the sealant for attachment. Good luck. motor mount

I changed the mount on my 22, and found that the wedge came right off, as it was sandwiched between the transom and the mount. I upgraded the bolts and the mount, and reused the wedge. ~S

Motor Mount

Is the old mount that you have the Garlick with the aluminum motor board and all aluminum supports? I am looking for a spring for this type of mount. The manufacture does not stock parts any longer. My 25 is an 82. I was hoping not to replace the whole mount this year but if I can't find a spring I may have to. If you have a spring that you don't need any longer I would be interested.

Poly

Dave, Took a look at my 222 and it is probably just poly holding the thing on. I have been redoing some of the through deck fittings and they are all secured with poly. Just apply a little preasure and it should pop off. Dan
