replacing mainsail halyard help

hi guys, help me please. i have a idea but it may not be correct.
best/easiest way to replace mainsail halyard. thx, paul

Some insist on sewing them together but we have not seen the advantage.

We have found that using a paper clip to join the lines works for us.

I sewed mine together. I cut the line and pulled the end up them outside the mast through the sheave down the inside of the mast. The turn on the bottom was my point of concern. What ever you do make sure you can back out or the mast will have to be lowered. I did used waxed seizing cord and a needle to sew the lines together. Pull gently and wiggle to assure you are in sheaves.

Sew the joint together using waxed 'sailmakers twine', a triangular shaped sailmakers needle and either a sewing palm or needle nosed pliers. Costs about 15¢ worth or twine.

I have used the same method as Steve with a paper clip and tape for several years and about 6 haliards with no problems. Thanks Steve.

One thing gents to always remember, when you splice the two lines together to pull the old one out, just keep a minimun amount of pressure so that the attachement smaller line does not come off the sheave; otherwise, it will get caught between mast wall and sheave which will cause some problems.
