I need to replace the main halyard on my catalina 27, 1976. It is a wire to rope halyard, can I tape the rope end of the new to wire end of the old and pull it up and over? Or do I need to climb the mast?
Does it have to be wore to rope or can one use all rope with the same sheaves. I threaded through the jib halyard sidw all rope and it works just fine, I tried it on the main halyard side and it ran smoothly buy there was not enoiuh room on the winch.
As far as your qestion is concerned I would hook the wire to the old rope halyard and then tape it.
You won't be able to pull an eye splice through
