Corrosion resulted in the failure of one of the inner shroud U bolts on my 1985 Oday. I have replaced all four of the U bolts and I am looking for inputs on how tight the stainless steel rods that connect the U bolts to the frame of the boat should be. Looks like the correct approach is to bed, install and bolt down the U bolt to the deck with the rod attached to the U bolt assembly via an aluminum block. The stainless steel rod can then be turned while holding the lower end nuts stationary until the desired tension is achieved. I know the tension on the rod should not be so tight as to pull down the deck and should be tight enough so that the deck does not flex up when the shrouds are tightened...but I am looking for more detail on how to correctly accomplish this adjustment. The procedure and approach would probably be the same for other Odays that use the rod assembly to anchor the U bolts. Thanks.
