replaced the water impeller today, but could not get the snap clip to lock on to the shaft. Is there something I have missed, or a trick to the replacement.

It really is a PITA to get that ring back on. I don't think there is any particular trick to it other than persistance and foul language. After the first time I did it - I bought extra split rings knowing that I would probably lose one sooner or later. I also bought the special tool (Harbor Freight @ about $4.00) for removing and installing the split rings. It makes the job much easier! The rings and the tool seemed like cheap insurance if I ever have to change the impeller in a hurry on rough water.

Tried again today, and even pulled shaft forward alittle to expose the groove, but each time I would move the impeller back, the shaft would move too. Guess I may see how the marina mechanic does it the first time, and learn from him

Many owners subscribing to the C30 site on Yahoo, including me, have reported not replacing the clip at all, with no consequence of note. I dispensed with the clip about 7 years and 400 engine hours ago.

Thanks, I think I may do the same. Can't see how the impeller could move anywhere after the face plate was mounted.

For what it's worth......
I got my 1991 30 Mk II last December and decided to change the impeller to comply with the maintenance regimen the previous owner followed and documented. I fount NO split ring when I removed it. After playing with it for about 1/2 hour or so, I concluded that there is nowhere for the impeller to go without the clip..........so, like Bob, I also decided to go without.
So far, so good.
