I have an Oday 23 that i just bought about 1 month ago. I'm getting ready to take if for the first sail but noticed that the haylard rope is starting to frey. It is a wire and rope combo. How do I measure to make sure I get the right one? I think boat us come already made at 40' rope and 40' cable. Do you trim or leave it alone? How do you put up the new rope and wire? Is there somewhere else I should be looking to get a new halyard, the one I'm looking at is $130.00 for 3/8in. Thanks in advance. clif

try Rudy

Clif, If you go to the "more fun" tab on this home page and hit "o'day sites" the first one is for Rudy who sells oday parts. I bout main and jib haylards for my 25 at a fraction of what you're looking at. Mine are all rope no cable the old ones are combo. Rudy has a "parts list" section on his site one for the 25 and one for the 23 with a list of all ready parts. He also knows the needed length for your boat. Try his site or call him he ia a friendly and helpful guy. Good luck, Mike

for your Oday ... rope is OK ...

in fact you probably can get away with just using a bowline to tie your sail to a new piece of rope you will call the main halyard. or tie the shackle from your current halyard on to the new rope if you want a little weight on the end. there's a bunch a rope sellers on ebay that can provide a good price on a piece of rope that you can use for a number of applications. it is amazing how little you need to spend ... and things basically work about the same way. And you won't get hands pricked when the wire starts to pop. Vic

New 23 also

I sailed my recently purchased '80 O 23 for the first time yesterday. It was great! I also replaced my main and jib halyards along with my topping lift. I called ordered everything from Rudy at www.oday.com. He was great. I downloaded the parts list for the O 25. Rudy said it's the same as the 23. Enjoy! By the way I need a trailer for my boat. Any out there? David

i will use rope only for the halyards

thank you so much. That was my next question, can i just use rope instead of wire and rope. I will just use the rope, and it is alot cheaper. Thanks again. Clif
