Is there anything special about replacing the main halyard on a roller furling main sail on a Beneteau 321? Do I remove the screw at the bottom of the furler and let the everything slide down for easy access?

Hello cymeyer hope you had a good summer.
In order to disconnect the main halyard from the shackle inside the mast it appears the stop at the bottom the furler must be removed and the collar and shackle need to slide down in order for the shackle to be accessed and opened. I can't remember, do you have a roller furling main on your 321?

I do indeed have a roller furling main. Our boat is covered. I seem to recall that that is a screw at the top of the main shackle that should release the main halyard. I have not replaced any halyards in 15 years, but it is on my list for next spring!

If it is something like my mast (sparcraft) there's a top swivel that goes up and down the foil in the furling mechanism with a shackle on top of it where the halyard is attached (with a knot). Simply drop the mainsail and you will have access to the halyard. Nothing really complicated (not much difference from the genoa halyard in fact).
