Debbie

We just purchased our boat and are replacing the foam bedding and fabric - my question is whether it is necessary to use special fabric (ie- Sunbrella) which is for indoor-outdoor use, or whether any fabric would do.

bedding

Debbie, Sorry, I do not have the right answers for you, but I think it would be great for some who have spent a lot of nights aboard their boats to give us good ideas to have more comfortable bedding. The Hunter I purchased this past year is pretty uncomfortable. The cushions are split; keep seperating, etc during the night. NOT a good nights rest. New cushions without splits?? Better foam?? This also might help you in your decisions. Chaos

From a live-aboard

You gotta take your cushions into a foam store. I took on of my aft cabin cushions in and had them replace the old foam. It cost me $100 and I sleep like a baby now. She said that the foam that came with the boat is very poor quality and shouldn't be slept on much. She said even good quality foam may only last 4-5 years for a live-aboard but spending $100 for a good bed ever 5 years is pretty good. The reason I say to take your cushion in is so they can cut it to fit perfectly. The store I went to also let me try out different firmnesses which helped me pick the right foam. Why are there two cushions for the aft cabin? Because it makes it a lot easier to deal with getting underneith them. Mine comes with vecro to keep them in place and as long as the sheets don't get in the way, the vecro holds them in place. BTW: The foam store made some money off me because I bought 4 special pillows made out of foam at $30 a piece but I love the pillows too. In a month or two I will take other cushions in.

Sunbrella

Why would you want that? I don't think it would be very comfortable. I think it would be expensive. I don't think you need anything to hold up to UV rays because you should be trying to keep them out of your boat in the first place...if anything, to protect your glass. My advice, get normal covers for your cushions, put scotchs guard on them, and then get covers for your hatches.

Foam Store?

Sounds like a great idea but here in Magnolia Arkansas we don't have a foam store. Where is the store you took the cushion to and name? I would like to call to see if we could send them our cushions. CC
