Replacing external teakb

I'm boat shopping and have narrowed my choice down to several 30-footers from 70's and 80's (Pearson, O'Day, Newport). One of the boats I'm looking at has replaced the external teak (grab rails and hatch boards) with a white, heavy, wood-grained material. Seems like an excellent option for reducing maintenance. Anyone have ideas about what this material may be and what kind of company I would need to talk with about fabricating replacement rails and boards?ThanksMichael Kidwellmichael_savant@hotmail.com

King Starboard

You can get sheets of it at West Marine and Boats US. They carry prefabed handrails. I used it for winch pads on my boat. Great stuff.

I also replaced much of the brightwork on my H34 with the King Starboard. I used the dolphin Gray for many of the teak accents in the cockpit area,companionway boards,steps for the swim ladder,etc. However, I did not replace the handrails or the cabin side trim because it just did not look as good as teak in that area. I would have opted for SS handrails but the cost was pretty high. WM and BoatUS charge too much. Call Laird Plastics, Interstate Plastics or any of the other distributors that are listed on their website. They were about half what WM or BoatUS were. If you want the teak look out of this type material look at www.plasteak.com. They can fabricate your handrail for a reasonable price.
