Can a depthsounder's transducer be replaced while the boat is in water? The depthsounder in my C27 is as old as the boat (1978). The depthsounder manufacturer is out of business. I need to replace the depthsounder with a new one, but not sure whether replacing the transducer can be done without hauling out the boat. Can it? Any one have experience with doing so?

I'd wait for a haulout and reduce the odds of sinking the boat. Have you consider a shoot thru hull transducer? That's what I changed to in my c27. No holes to drill, easy. Peter

Agree with Peter if you have to replace the transducer go with one that shoots thru the hull. There is a possibility that your old transducer will work with the new instrument. I just replaced my old depth sounder on my 86 C30 with a new Standard Horizon. Hooked it to the old transducer and it worked like a champ. Worth a try. Ron
