Working on updating my new (old '87) H23. The interior of the boat and all the contents has a mildew order which I am trying to eliminate. I have original cushions and the covers are in decent condition but I can't get the mildew odor out of the vinyl which is on the bottom. I've scrubbed the vinyl and washed the covers in the machine with a bleach solution and detergent. Today I let them out under the sun all day and I am still smelling the oder. Does anyone have any idea? I don't want to invest in all new covers AND the foam which I intend to replace. My next thought would be to remove the vinyl and replace it with a breathable material. I can sew!

mildew

Bleach and sunlight are the two ways I would try to get rid of mildew. My 89 h23 had what I consider breathable material on the cushions . I am not sure where the vinyl came from . Sounds like it is time to sew . Just a thought , once you make your own cushions you could probably stay busy this winter making covers for others who have 23s that need new covers .That is a pretty active topic here . Good Luck Mike

Try a few more days

under the sun before deciding to spend more money. It takes a little time, I don't think one day would be enough. Try laying then out on concrete, or the roof of the house, a grassy yard doesn't work so well.

remove and wash

on my H22 the cover of all cushions , except 2came off completely, there was a velcro closure and the foam could be removed. Washed this all in the superbig machines at the laundromat and then put the foam back. there were two cushions with wood backing and vinyl stapled to the wood, which, if necessary, it seems would be easy to replace.
