Replacing Cockpit Drain

I have a leak in my self draining cockpit. Any advice on how to replace the drain would be appreciated.

Hi Hans -See how much access you have between the cockpit and the hull below the drain. You should have a hose clamp under the drain; check to see if the leak if at that connection. To remove the actual drain, you should be able to remove the caulk with a razor knife &/or some solvent to break it free. Rebed and re-attach hose with clamp, then test for leaks.Let us know how what you find.Best,Trevor

222 replaced cockpit drain

I replaced the cockpit drain on my 222 this spring, probably very similiar to your 192.Actually the drain hose was leaking and it being impossible to loosen from that drain thruhull so I had to cut the hose necessitating the drain(thru hull) replacement as well.The hardest part was crawling into the lazerettewith tools to loosen the large plastic nut that holds the plug in place. Use plumbing tools likepipe wrench or channel lock pliers to remove nut, then the drain thru hull can easily be removed. Make sure to remove all the old caulkand use a marine polyurethane adhesive sealant(not 3M 5200)to seat the new plug. West Marine makes a good one.While there why not replace that drain hose and also the thru hull(mushroom type?) that exits the water near the waterline....Make sure you have the right parts before you start by taking the old parts to your marine store and getting the right sizes. Having a second person around helps with all the removal stuff...
