Has anyone attempted to change out the carpeting on the ceililing of an S 2? It looks pretty challenging. I would like to clean it or replace it as it looks very dated and dull.

if you know how to use contact cement witch i am assuming you do being a printer ....putting carpet on is easy with knowledge you have ......
you may want to look at steam cleaning the old stuff and you may find it is rather nice....but if not just pull the old stuff off and get some new carpet rubber backed and do a glue job on the head surface and the back of the carpet a place it ...and walk it in place and use a roller to insure a good bond....

sure you want to do this? on my 9.2 it is glued very well and you may damage the fiberglass removing. is it that bad that you cannot clean?
It is pretty bad, plus it will help me locate the source of the leaks. Thus far I am close to having all V-Bert carpet removed. Yes it is glued well but due to the age and condition of the carpet and glue all that is coming off is carpet. Lots of mold on the mat side of the carpet I doubt steam cleaning would cure that issue. It also appears that I am going to have to replace the bulkhead separating the V-Bert as well since there is water damage to it and it holds the chainplates. Not looking forward to that task at all.richard965 said:

I am trying steam cleaning first. The carpet in the forward birth looks really good. I have to replace a piece of the teak around the forward hatch. I do have some water staining on the chainplate in the forward berth.
3M makes a spray adhesive which should allow you to get glue back above the head liner with minimal access. I have some and keep meaning to try to reattach mine. I was going to rig some battens across the cabin top using the bolts for the hand rails and perhaps some pipe plumbing insulation and some thin plywood to keep pressure on it.
I've had to peel and reglue some areas for core repair. 3M spray 90 holds it well. I though about removing it entirely because of extensive stains around the hardware (hence the soggy core). I postponed due to the need to remove the plywood panels that are bedded to the plexi windows.
Granted the carpet could be cut at those joints and a new wood trim put on to cover the new carpet edge.

Ours was falling down in places and shed fibers every time you touched it. We pulled it all down (quite easily) and I'm replacing it with formica panels that will arch across the ceiling, held up by wood battens, removable for accessing hardware thru bolted to the cabin top. I'm makng up backing plates for the winches and turning blocks while I'm at it. They used nothing more than small flat washers behind the nuts holding them!
