Replacing cabin top deadlight - worry about moisture?

Hi all,

As you all know, the cabin top deadlight has two lens:

http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm ... onate-.cfm

I've noticed that, after it rains, water has been leaking from the top lens on the cabin roof, and pooled below onto the second lens, and then its been leaking into the cabin itself. The lenses are fine, but the material used to bond them to the coach roof has degraded.

I've researched how to replace the lens, but I am wondering whether I should be worried about moisture having infiltrated the fibreglass of the coach roof? Or perhaps the fibreglass in the deadlight area is sealed against moisture already, given that the deadlights are a weak point?

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks,
Charlie

When you pull off the lights, check the core. If its solid, you are good. Most likely it is and you can re-seal and move on. I've had the same issue and they were fine. Just re-seal and move along.

Same for me. It looked like the edges of the cut-out had been sealed on my boat. Are you going with the C-Direct lenses and goop or going to Home Depot?

Patrick, thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.

Rightbrainer, I have ordered replacement lenses from C-Direct. For me, that was the most straightforward option and the cost was acceptable.

When I purchased #427 the exterior lens was broke. I ordered the kit from C.D. and replaced the exterior lens. and left the interior lens off for a while, to make sure it dried out 100%.

Humm, I guess it is time to install the interior lens now ...
