I have a '79 O'day 23, standard cabin. The pendant finally seperated from the c/b. I purchased a new pendant from Rudy at D&R when I got the boat three years ago figuring I would eventually neet it. It looks like all I must do is attach the shackle to the c/b run the line back up thur the pendant tube to the bridgedeck and cleat it. My main concern is damaging the pendant tube and creating a leak. I really would like not to haul the boat. If anyone can give me any additional on the installation, I sure would appreciate it.

Haul or dive

If the shackle on your new pendent is removable, here's an idea: remove the new shackle from the eye on the line. Tape and/or sew the eye to the (dry) end of your existing pendent (of course untying your existing stopper knot first). Dive under your boat and pull the new line through the tube and out into the centerboard trunk and into the water. There should be plenty of room for your tape/sewing lump to pass through easily. Unhitch the two lines, attach your new shackle to the end of the new line, and then to the centerboard. Advantages: you won't damage the pendent line tube; no haul required. Disadvantages: you are working in six feet of cold, jellyfish-infested waters. The really easy way is to do the same thing while the boat is hauled out. Good luck and let me know if you figure out a better way. I have the same year and model boat and will be doing the same thing soon.
