Tabbing Bulkheads
Most of the mid size models of O'Day had "floating" bulkheads. Generally the term is used to describe a negative condition when tabbed bulkheads break loose and become adrift. But in O'Days, the bulkheads fit or float in a pocket built into the hull liner. This allows the bulkhead to contribute both stiffness to the hull without creating a "hard point" up against the hull inside and allow the boat to flex where needed.I agree with Justin that you could be introducing a bunch more variables to the design of your boat by tabbing them hard to the hull. If the bulkheads were never tabbed to the hull, there may be a logical reason why, rather than just an oversight of the naval designer.I have a gasket that finishes the bulkhead/hull joint. I have never considered changing it. I think it serves no other purpose than cosmetic. I suppose one could pull it off but as with most things, its not always as easy as it appears.Don
