Replacing Alcohol Stove

I have a 1985 27 with an pressurized alcohol stove that is leaking at the base of the burners. I prefer to replace it with a propane stove unless there is a safe simple way to repair the burners. The stove manufacturer is Seawind Can anyone advise with either a simple solution or a recommendation for a propane retrofit.Thanks,Gerard

Before you get too far into the stove i would contact Seaward. Talk to their customer service people, explain the delema and they are extremely knowledgeable. The only number i have is a local number 562-699-7997, but look them up in your marine directory for the 800 number. They are located in Whittier CA. FYI propane is a whole different barrel of snakes, not as easy to install as what you have.

Sure it's a leak?

Don't know how familiar you are with your stove, so this might be a moot point...But, normal operation of the stove begins with priming the stove by turning it on & getting a small amount of alcohol BELOW the burner (which may appear to be a leak). This is used to preheat the burner element enough so that it turns the alcohol to vapor, similar to a coleman white gas stove. If you are not familiar with this preceedure, check the archives. There should be several procedures that detail how to properly light this stove (I believe the most popular model was the "Seaward Princess" pressurized stove.
