I would like to replace the old winches on my C30. Took the drum off remove the screws, nuts, washer and can't budge it. Did not want to apply too much force not sure how much the suface could take. Any tips on how to break it loose or at least soften the adhesive grip. Thanks

A lot depends on which adhesive

was used. Hopefully, not 3M5200. But you may want to try a product called DeBond (see link). I've had some success with that stuff. Another possibility is to take a thin hacksaw blade and try to work it by hand under the base of the old winch. Or wrap a piece of tough piano wire around two handles and try to get that to cut through the old adhesive. Good luck with this. Don't use 3M5200 with your new winches. I like SikaFlex.

another option

Warren's suggestions should be your first choice but if you don't want to try those ideas, I once used a narrow blade putty knife and a hammer being careful to not scratch the gelcoat. If you go this route, work from outboard toward the centerline as the winch will tend to go flying once it breaks loose.

next time

Dont use any adhesive on the bases they are not going anywhere one they are thru bolted. Just put some 4200 not 5200 in the bolt holes

Nice N Easy

Run down to your local Home Depot

Run down to your local Home Depot/Lowes, and get you one of those wire saws they sell for cutting PVC pipe. Not sure the exact name, but they should work very good. They are almost like a piece of piano wire, with teeth and handles.
