I need to replace the stern (Port side) chock on my Beneteau 361 (2000). Trouble is- I can't seem to get access to the holding nuts underneath the deck. The top screws are clearly twistable, but I hesitate to get started without holding the bottom together. Any advice would be greatly appreciated... Cheers, C

A couple of ways....

BananaToe, we have a Beneteau 473 now but last year we had a 361. As I am sure you are aware, the starboard side chock is much easier to get to than the port. There are only two ways I know of to access the underside of the port chock to remove the nuts and washers and replace it with new ones. Not knowing your physical size but I'm 5'9" and weight 160 pounds and I crawled half way (head, shoulders, arms and chest) through the access area. This is how I did mine but it is extremely tight/cramped and frustrating and in my opinion not worth it. What I would recommend is what I was going to do but decided to try the contortion act instead. Cut a small access panel, above and to the right (about 10" from the hull) of the one that is there in the bulkhead in the port lazerette. You don't need more than a 5"x5" hole that enables you to easily reach in and access the underside of the chock. Yuu can simply replace it with an 6"x6" quarter inch plywood panel screwed to the bulkhead. If you want it to look more finised then glue a half inch lip on the inside of the hole and screw the piece that you cut out into the lip and it will be flush. Good luck and I would highly recommend cutting the access hole and NOT try to reach it from the other access hole. Rich

Thanks Much!

Rich- Thanks so much. Great ideas. I'm 6' and 190 so will go with plan B- Cut the access hole. Thanks again! PS- Congrats on the 473 upgrade.
