Looks like I may need to replace my OEM Simpson-Lawrence Horizon 1000 electric windlass. Too much corrosion, and a binding gear. Anyone else done this on 10 year old, out of production big-boat windlass? Guess I will be glassing in the old mounting holes. Looks like Lewmar (who bought out S-L) has a very similar windlass.

Simple job. Get the Lewmar I think it'll fit in the same holes.

Simpson Lawrence is now completely obsolete, no parts support. Lewmar was bought by S-L. The replacement for my 1000 watt windlass is a Lewmar design (H2) that has different mount locations. It also does away with the remote control solenoid, incorporating it into the windlass. Yet more electrical parts in a soggy anchor locker. Ugh. And the Proline (a S-L design) that would be a near perfect replacement doesn't offer a BBB 3/8" gypsy. I won't be replacing my rode for want of a convenient gypsy size.

Gunni, Bacons has oodles of gypsies in the store. I assume size is stamped on the gypsies, or maybe you'd need their part #?

Thanks Ron, Bacons won't have it. The issue is that Lewmar never made a BBB 3/8" chain gypsy for their Simpson-Lawrence Pro-Line windlass. I will have to consider another low-profile windlass with the required power for a 42ft boat's ground tackle.
