Apparently they don't make the tach anymore - is there a drop in aftermarket one I can use? The sender is the flywheel type, not the alternator type

first off i don't think you are getting ac voltage only dc....for a drop in tach

wema makes one that will work off sender or off the alt ...contact them direct by phone or e mail and talk to them about what you need and they will send you the correct one ......you only need one that will go to 4000 rpms...and when you install it if you are not sure about what you are doing call them they will help you

The tach in my 3qm30 Yanmar panel is made by VDO and is a standard size. Suggest you check yours for make and part number and see if they have a replacement.

The pick up is magnetic and senses the starter ring gear teeth.

Tach

My tach started acting up a year ago and after checking and testing it
over and over decided a new one one needed and after buying a new one
it is doing same thing.
Any way Yanmar wanted $500 for new one for my 2007 3YM30 and so looked
on the internet for VDO tach and even contacted VDO and with help from them
found a replacement for around $125.00 nut after some one told me about one
for around $99.00 I think.
Good luck and my tach still goes whacky and some times works OK and some times not working with out jumping all over.
I have a backup alternator I will be trying to see if it works better and mine
works off the alternator and did have it tested and they said it was working OK.
But I got a good deal on this Alternator.
