I am the proud owner of a 1984 Oday 34 and have been very happy with the boat, but the main sail and 150 are original equipment and are nearing the end of their lifecycle. Does anyone know where to get good replacement sails for this model Oday?

me too me too

I would be interested in what you find out. I am an owner of an 83 Oday 34 and both sails are original.

sails

I replaced my orignial sails on my O'Day 28 about a year ago. I researched the prices and decided on a local sail maker. The price was about 20% higher than some of the national discount sails but my throught was if I had a problem with fit it would be much easier to get the problem corrected without shipping sails. Considering the other sails had lasted 19 years the extra 20% was not that important. Good Luck

Here's A Sailmaker

Try Hathaway, Reiser & Raymond in Stamford, Ct. They made the sails for my O'day 34 a couple of years ago and I'm sure they still have the dimensions. They've been in business since 1890. You may find cheaper sails but you won't find better sails. phone 203-324-9581.

Hi Bill, I have an O'Day 35 (34 with a swim platform scoop transom). I think the mainsail that came with the boat is outstanding quality and recommend you contact neil pride for a replacement. I think they build them in Taiwan or something so the cost is probably competitive. My original equipment headsail does not have a suncover on it so it has to be taken down each time used. I have a roller furler so the headsail has only been used maybe 5 times in 16 years. You might want to consider making your own sails, in that case go to Sailrite for a kit and a sewing machine if needed. Best wishes dave

Try this place

Last year I was in dire straits with my son's opti sail. I tried to just get an answer from some guy that was reccomended to me right here in Port Washington. He was a total schmuck. So I just figured that I should start calling around. I ended up going to North Sails in Huntington NY. The guy there said "Come right on over". I took this little sail to him. You would that most guys wouldn't have the time to do something so simple as put numbers on a child's sail. Well, this guy took this job very seriously. We went up into the sail loft pinned down the sail and he did this little job for me with enthusiasim. Right then and there I said to myself that when I get new sails I am calling nobody else. They were so nice and skilled (I watched another guy working on another sail) that I didn't want to leave. Give them a try. Warren

Yes, Neil Pryde

We have a 1982 O'Day 37 that came with the original sails. They were well used and a couple of more years did not improve them. I have replaced all sails ocver the past three years with new from Neil Pryde, who was the OEM supplier for many O'Day models. I like the service, price and support and am truly impressed with the quality of construction. We have new main, 130 genoa, 100 jib and cruising spinnaker. I give them back to Neil Pryde in the winter for cleaning and mionor repairs and maintenance. Also gets them out of my closet. I put the old ones on consignment at Bacon's in Annapolis. One was deemed unsaleable and my wife will make stuff from it. One actually sold and one is still for sale.
