Is there any other replacement that can be used for the ring dings? Tears the fingers up when I try and remove them.

Patience works

I used to struggle with those confounded ring dings. However, after taking some 'time out' and sitting in a quiet corner with pin and ring ding, I finally came up with a procedure that at least make using them tolerable. Too difficult to explain here, but good luck in finding them more friendly in the future. ;) Ron

Ring Dings

I have replaced most of them especially on blocks with SS shackles from Home Depot. Anywhere else I can, I use a plain SS nut and a SS hair pin through a hole drilled into the end of the bolt or shaft. The nut keeps the shaft in place and take the load, the hairpin keep the nut from falling out. I don't mind using the pliers but the ring catches line, cloth and skin. You'll have to think out of the box. SS parts from marine store cost much more than hardware store. In absolute terms, the difference between 316 SS and the HD stuff is very little. It's fun to figure out new way of doing things. The design engineer may not always right.

Screw drive bit works great.

I keep screw driver bit in my pocket while rigging up. Its just the right size with flat sides that whenj twisted snap in old ring securely open enough to get started.
