Has anyone replaced their refrigerator components on a 340? The factory-installed system on our 1999 340 has failed. Tryed to recharge the Freon a couple times but it only lasts a few weeks. Either the compressor or the evaporator leaks. Suspect the tubing leading to the fittings on the compressor leak since the color indicator added to the Freon by the manufacturer has been evident since we acquired the boat 7 years ago. Also, I have always thought that there was a problem since it never has seemed to "cycle" properly like the unit on our previous boat but it kept things cold up until last fall. We are interested in hearing if anyone else has had similar problems and/or what they replaced the factory components with. We are currently looking at an Adler Barbour Coolmatic 85 (CU 85) compressor and VD-09 evaporator. These appear to be the proper size for the volume of the refrigerator which we calculate to be 6.3 cu ft.

hire a reefer specialist

Why don't you contact a refrigeration specialist. It may be something a simple as a new fitting. They should use a snooper one the system to detect any leaks before it is recharged. Once you system is open I think it also should be evacuated but someone who know what they are doing can usually fix you up.

Yes, get a marine refrigeration technician.

You have to correct the leak at the fitting before diagnosing any further. The technician has all the proper tools and can probably get parts quicker and cheaper than you may be able to.

A tech had ruined mine by changing an R12 system to 134. Even tho it was changed to R409A the damage was done and we think the bearings on the compressor flat-spotted. I had them put in a Seafrost system which I am very happy with. Even tho I'm not thrilled with a recent experience with their electrical tech, I would recommend them to you for the refrigeration. They are at 2nd street and marina drive. Good luck, RD
