Replacement Propane tank for Catalina 310

The aluminum propane tank cannot be refilled due to age. It was made in 1999. No reputable dealer will fill it. I disposed of the tank properly and now need a new one.

It is the modern version with the 3 pronged valve and not the older less safe 5.
Has anyone purchased this item?
Catalina direct has them, but wondering if there are alternatives.
Thanks
Jack

Before you disposed the tank did you look at getting it re-certified as all it is a new safety valve and tank hydro test.

The trick is to purchase a tank that fits your propane locker. Made the mistake of purchasing a Trident fiberglass propane tank that did not fit (15 1/4" xeight x 12 1/2" diameter. The Catalina Direct aluminum 10 lb (2.4 gal) costs $199. Same capacity aluminum tank 16 1/2" height x 10 1/4" diameter from West Marine sells for $220. Same capacity powder-coated steel tank 16 3/4" Height 16 3/4" high x 9 1/8" diameter from West Marine sells for $120.

Not sure what the 3 prong vs. 5 prong valve is?

I think he's referring to the OPD valve knobs having 3 lobes on them.
I found an odd sized tank to fit a prior boat at a propane dealer in a rural area that relied on propane for home heating for about $100. Just went in to get a BBQ tank filled and here was all these tanks including the one I'd been searching for.

Check HomeDepot they have a steel one for 60$. It is the 11gallon size. It is just a small BBQ bottle.
Have been using it for awhile with no issues.

The Home Depot tank Worthington 11 pound propane steel tank dimensions are 16.8 inch high and 9.1 inch diameter. If that fits your propane locker then it is good value for money at $63 and slightly cheaper than Camping World.

Both of my boats had lockers that only accepted the 10 lb. tanks, two of them each. The 11 lb. tanks wouldn't fit. Fortunately, Defender carries the 10 lb. tanks, and they are around $100 each.

The first and last time I had it refilled, the dealer said that re-certification would be as expensive as a new one. So I passed on that.
Thanks

I think the dealer wanted to sell you a new tank, a couple of years ago I had my tank recertified for $35, and that included filling it.
Cheers

I assume by now you have found a replacement tank. If not, check the RV supply houses. Their prices are competitive. I strongly suggest getting an aluminum tank. My original tank from 2003 is still in good shape, and the spare tank I bought back then is also in great shape.
