Replacement ports & hatch

I am extremely interested in buying an '84 Hunter 25 that is in very good shape except for the forward hatch and opening ports. The hatch is shot, and must be replaced immediately. The ports still keep water out and let lots of air in, but have aged to the point that you can't see through them. Also, the wife prefers tinted ports for privacy and looks. I did a quick check of the archives and saw references to Bomar/Gray replacement plastic hatches, but don't want to go that route unless I absolutely have to. Thriftymarine.com was also mentioned, but they are apparently kaput. It looks like the Bomar 1000 series aluminum frame hatch is close-- will it work? What others brands will work? I want something heavy duty that my 9 year old and friends can't figure a way to break. Likewise, the Bomar 6 X 14 and 7 X 17 ports look close, as do the Beckson 512 & 714-- will they do the trick? I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks for any help you can give. If all goes well, I'll be switching from a Catalina 25 swingkeel to a H25 deepfin this Friday. Randall

1984?

If you are buying a 1984 Hunter "25", most likely it is a 25.5, because they stopped making the other "25" design the year before as far as I'm aware. If this is the case you can try posting the question on the Hunter 25.5 forum. I have a 1979 Hunter 25 and have found the same thing in that there are no leads on replacing the trapezoidal hatch. Bomar(Gray) makes a larger hatch that would require some cutting and grinding but I can't say that I would be daring enough to do that. As far as the side ports are concerned I am not sure because my design doesn't have them which is bad for ventilation but good because it is one less area vulnerable to leaking on a 25 year old vessel.

Ain't I the silly one!

It is an '83 Hunter eight window that I have (almost) purchased. Friday should be the big day. I called Bomar this morning

We got lucky in that the hatches on our 79 Hunter 30 are in basically great condition all we plan on doing to them is repaint
