sunbrella top

The "po" of my boat has a sunbrella type of fabic made to cover the cabin, teak, and windows. after 20 years it still looks great. It covers and attaches from the hatches to the, and around the mast, also attaches to the pulpits. It's kind of a moring cover. If your keeping your boat you may want to consider it. sorry for the type-o's. i'm beat. good luck, jack

Go Lexan

Take your old windows to a local glass place and let them cut you new ones. Lexan is a lot stronger than plexiglass. They should be able to tell you what to use as a sealant when putting the lexan in (I think Life Caulk is what works with lexan to FG.)

Lexan is softer than plexi

We have countless articles in the archives here about replacing portlights. It always comes down to the discussion between polycarbonate and plexiglass. Polycarbonate is softer and scratches more easily than plexi. Polycarbonate will "cloud" more easily than plexi.'

Hunter windows...

...are plexiglass and I strongly recommend that you order them from Hunter Marine. Their supplier uses the original templates and the price was not out of line. The side windows on our boat have a 1" chamfer on the top for maximum adhesion and waterproofing. This chamfer might be impossible DIY and I doubt if most plexiglass suppliers could duplicate. Also, get the recommended sealant from Hunter which is Dow Chemical 795. This is the stuff used in highrise buildings to prevent the windows from getting sucked out in high winds. Mike Thomas at Hunter Marine is a great resource. Check the archives for lots of additional information. Good luck.

I made mine of lexan

and you can too if you have a table saw and a router. Way cheaper and it is not too hard - just messy.
