I have a fram water separator fuel filter next to attached to the fuel line, near that fuel tank on my Cape Dory 31. I would like to replace it with a racor filter. Do you know what model filter to I can use? Thank you,
Michael Davis
It depends on the space you have. The smaller units are the R120's and they go up from there. If you go to the larger units you have have additional features that allow you monitor the pressure and even sensors for water.....
If you can fit a Racor 500MA10 that would be great. Run it with a 10 or 30 micron filter and you'll be good The MA10 comes with a 10 mic element the MA30 comes with a 30 mic element. The 120AT would also be a good choice and smaller.
When I got my sailboat I converted my fuel filter to a double 500 racor system with a gauge. I can switch from one fuel filter to the other and change without shutting engine off. Keep in mind I had a trawler before getting a CT 44 cutter rigged sailboat. I have yet to change my racors. These filters are excessive for my 4jhte 66 hp Yanmar, But I have the peace of mind that I can switch filters if one boggs down. Ok ..I come from a power boat mentality...but I still feel its a great system.
