Does anyone know where I might find a replacement v-berth hatch for a 1978 Huter '27. Bomar no longer makes this design (I guess you would call it trapazoidal)? Any help would be appreciated.

Hatch Replacement

Sean See the article from yesterday by Gil, and my reply to it (Search for Hatches or hatch or something). It will probably answer your question. They don't actually make the trapezoidal one now, you have to by a square one that fits one side, and then cut out about 1" on the hinge side to make it fit. Take care, Ron Vanderveer

Seems to me someone found some...

...in a message the last 4 - 6 weeks or so. A source for the trap hatch. It was an straight drop-in. I'd search the recent archives. I am sort of in the market myself for my '79 H27 and thought about buying one just because they are so scarce. But I am getting older, the short-term memory goes first, ya know. David

Sean: They still make the trapizoid hatches. Here is the part number and the photos of the installation. Mr. Chuck Fort did a good job of his installation. http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=Fort73126358413&fno=17 I would think that they make one of these with an interior lip/flange and one that does not have it (flush mounted). I would contact Thrifty Mariner and see if they have them or can get them.

Bomar 2092 from Pompanette

This is the trapeziodal replacement hatch. We just installed it on our '77 h27, and are _very_ pleased with the results. It's a little oversize, which allows routing of the top of the opening for the perfect fit allowing for refinishing the routed area, and applying sealant. There is a detailed description of this job in the archives - that's where I got the idea. Another solution in the archives is to just mount a square hatch that covers the trapeziod on the deck of the hatch structure. We choose not to go this route since it means using a hatch without a flange, changes the look, and doesn't quite "fit." Good luck on your boat - we love ours - just spent a week touring to Erie/Presque Isle and back. David Lady Lillie

Definitely still made

I just put one in last year on my 78 hunter, it is slightly bigger by about a 1/4 inch all the way around.. not being good with fiberglass I had someone do it for me.. search on thrifty mariner, they should have it.. bomar still makes one but if you can get through thrifty mariner it should be about ~150, if you order it from bomar it'll be around ~400. Link points to discussion on thrifty mariner and hatch part numbers.. http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/rview.tpl?rid=2002182191935.86&forumabr=aao&fno=2

been there done that

Sean, I replaced mine with a square Bormar hatch because I cold not find a drop in with the trapazoid shape. The trapazoid hatches I did find, although not an exact match were 200% to 300% more expensive than the Bomar. Not too hard. If you email me you email address or fax number I can send you my step by step instructions with a diagram. Nelsonhow@netscape.net
