I recently broke a port on my Hunter 1979 37 Cutter. As you know, they are the plastic ones which came standard on the model. I accidently smashed it and broke it. Does anybody know where I can obtain a replacement so that all will match again? Any idea of a replacement cost? Please advise. Thanks, Art

possible port info

I have an 81 Hunter 30 that has Gray Enterprise ports, they are now available through Bomar. They have an appropriately named "Gray Series" that are exact relpacements. If these are the same ports you have, they are online at: www.pompanette.com I don't know where they came up with that address! It has been a while since I checked but for my boat, ports would run between 100 and 140 dollars. I have not priced this option, but if you only broke the inside lens, they will sell just that part also.

Plastic! Bah! Humbug!!

Actually, Steve D's recommendation is pretty doggone good one, but there's another possible way -- more expensive, yes -- but it depends on how much you love your boat and how long you plan on keeping her. New Found Metals has replacement bronze/brass and stainless steel ports at pretty reasonable prices. If you are not a do-it-yourselfer, plan on spending at least as much on installation of the ports by a yard as you spend on buying them, so effectively double the cost. And, of course, you don't have to do all of them at once; a few at a time as you can afford it is a good idea. That's going to be the next big project for mine. Well, this is just a thought.

Caution.

Bob mentions the NFM portlights. Just be sure you understand the work involved after you spend the $$$$. The attached photo illustrates the problem. There is a lot of epoxy work to get a good fit BEFORE you try to seal them. This is a bronze 7x14. NFM now makes a 7x15 which is a much better fit for the large Gray port holes. They also make it in stainless which looks super and does not turn green without constant attention.
