Replacement Boom

1984 Hunter 22 - boat is new to us. Needed a new mainsail when we bought it. Purchased the new mainsail online for a stock Hunter 22. It is almost a perfect fit except the foot is approx 6" too long (9.75" according to the sail manufacturer). Can I purchase a longer boom? If so any recommendations?

Hunter 22 main

According to Sailrite's sailplan database, no Hunter 22 has a mainsail with a foot that long. The 1981 22 has an E measurement (the foot of the main) of 8.75 ft. Later Hunter 22s had a measurement of 8.33 ft. The Hunter Sonata 22 had a measurement of 8.5 ft.

Don't change the boom, it is a huge expense and you'll mess with the balance of the boat and increase weather helm. Get whoever sold you that sail to sell you the correct one.

Return the sail. Every site I checked has a sail foot of 8.75. Don't replace the boom. Don't have the sail recut. If you go with a new/different sail, follow the sail lofts directions to measure you mast and boom. A new sail should cost between $475 and $750.

It's a stock sail...... return it for one that fits.
