I have a original Marine Air 12000 BTU reverse cycle unit for the aft cabin of my boat that is leaking coolant R22. I am looking into replacing the unit and got a quote from a local Marine Air dealer for around 3k to replace it with the newest vector turbo unit. Because of the location and other items installed in the area I really to keep the size of the unit to a width of no more than 10 inches like the current unit that is installed. I came across a company in Florida called Ocean Breeze AC and they have quoted me less than half of the Marine Air unit for one of their units in stock which was designed specifically to replace in footprint the existing unit. The Marine Air unit includes professional installation and disposing of my old unit. I would have to install the Ocean Breeze unit. I would have warranty for both, but the Marine Air would have local support from the dealer. Anybody have any experience with Ocean Breeze and how difficult it would be for me to do the replacement?

I installed a 16000 Btu Ocean Breeze in my 1992 33.5. The installation
was easy and the people at Ocean Breeze were very helpful. The unit
is very quite and has preformed very well all Summer.:)

Thanks for the quick reply...From their website they seem to make quality products.
Warranty would be the issue as the unit has to be returned to them for inspection, where as the Marine Air unit would have local warranty support. I am just wondering if it would be worth the savings? I am guessing probably neither unit would have a problem during the warranty period if properly installed?

I have installed two of these ..both 16k ..and find them to be great units...they are not that bad to install....and i like the fact that you dont have to have a digital thermostat to run them.......

that wont be a problem ...one of the units came with a 220 vac heating coil and it was supposed to be a 110 vac so i called them and they sent me one out and only asked that i returne the 220 v unite bak to them ....

Actually, I have a mermaid 16k ac unit I just pulled out my boat. It's mint condition, but I am no longer on slips to run it.

Yours for $600

Thanks for the offer..I think I need to stick with the same BTU for this area as the ducting would have to be changed if I change the size of the unit. I do have a 16000 BTU unit for the forward area of the boat that is original (13 years old), but seems to be working fine for now.
For that price I am interested in your unit if it would fit into the designated space. Send me a pm and we can get each others email and go from there.
Thanks

I had to replace the 16k forward unit on our H44. Had to go with the replacement Marine Air Turbo unit because that was the only replacement that I could find that matched up with the ducting. The new unit had the fiberglass pan which was a plus and worked with the existing control unit. I ended up paying about 3k similar to your quote.
