Replaceing Racor primary filter

I'm considering replacing the all metal racor primary fuel filter with one that has an easy drain if h2o shows up in fuel. Possibly a slightly bigger filter too. Current filter uses small 110 internal filter. I see the newer spin-on type with clear see thru and a drain.Has any one replaced theirs and does size of filter unit matter?Bob F.

Bob. Racor makes a filter model # 140r with a "see thru" bowl. It is rated at 15 gallons per hour and should be a good replacement for the 110.Size maters in that you don't want to be too small (gallon per hour) and you don't want to be too large either.The 110 has a water drain but as you said it is not clear bowl and not easy to see thru.The 140r should fit in the same area as the 110.Good Luck !

fuel filter

I would suggest the Racor 220. It has a yellow plastic bowl on the bottom. Easy to check for water and drain if necessary. I have not noticed any water. The new unit is about $100. I have had mine for about five years. Just change the filter element each season.

Get a 500 series

They're not much more money than smaller models and you'll recoup the difference in cheaper filter elements. Another bonus is that changing the element is far less messy as the housing and bowl don't get removed to change out the element.I gotta disagree about a fuel filter being too large. The larger capacity simply means the unit will handle a larger amount of material before becoming compromised.I'd suggest that being able to change filters quickly, easily and as infrequently as possible could be pretty important if you should, say, find youself having to make a stormy inlet entrance under power with a churned up and dirty fuel load.Just my 2 cents.

I vote for the 500 too

Fuel is too important...get the best filter your budget can buy.
