replace wire pendant on Mariner centerboard

I just purchased a 1970 Mariner 2 2 with centerboard in very good condition. A wire pendant lifts and lowers the centerboard , working off a small drum. If the wire would need to be replaced, what size should it be?, Does Stuart Marine already have replacement wires, and how do you attach it to the centerboard. These is only a small hole in the top of the centerboard trunk to access it.
