Replace turnbuckles??? Replace stays???

The turnbuckles on this 1988 boat are discolored, but do not appear to be bent or damaged. The stays seem to be in good shape, no "wire hooks" or obvious damage from bending.

Is there a time, or time period, when turnbuckles should just be replaced, to prevent a possible problem?

Same question for the stays?

For the turnbuckles, you should use a dye penetrant inspection. You can see info about it at;

They sell the kits, of all sizes, on the net. Once you get the hang of it, they are easy to use.

How long has it been since you replaced the standing rigging? Over 5 years? That would be a concern for me. I just did a full re-rig of our boat (See our short YouTube video at;

Nice videos. I've been thinking of re-rigging with hi-mods from Rigging Only, but I'm open to recommendations. Should I consider Eggers instead?

We used Eggers because we have used them in the past for items, like our Mainster sail. They were very good to work with, and the price was about the same or better than most other places we looked at.
