Tire replacement cycle depends on the conditions they are stored, e.g., garage, outside in direct sunlight, load they carry and frequency of use. For example, I replaced my tandem ski boat trailer original tires after 10 years even though they did not show significant wear, low mileage and the trailer is stored in my garage in dry conditions and nearly constant temperatures. On the other, I replaced my tandem 14,000 lb 5th wheel tires after only 4 years as the original tires showed signs of cracking resulting from storing outside in direct sunlight and sitting for periods of time between trips.
Five years trailer tire interval is a safe precaution if the trailer is parked outside subject to the elements even if they do not show signs of wear. Trailer tires should be rated for the load they carry. Safety first.
