Tire replacement cycle depends on the conditions they are stored, e.g., garage, outside in direct sunlight, load they carry and frequency of use. For example, I replaced my tandem ski boat trailer original tires after 10 years even though they did not show significant wear, low mileage and the trailer is stored in my garage in dry conditions and nearly constant temperatures. On the other, I replaced my tandem 14,000 lb 5th wheel tires after only 4 years as the original tires showed signs of cracking resulting from storing outside in direct sunlight and sitting for periods of time between trips.

Five years trailer tire interval is a safe precaution if the trailer is parked outside subject to the elements even if they do not show signs of wear. Trailer tires should be rated for the load they carry. Safety first.

as a very satisfied user of goodyear marathon radials in 225-75-15 D i looked at the tirerack review and did find two dissatisfied users, hardly anything to judge a manufacturers reputation on. I purchase thru discount tires and get the warranty for any damage or defect replacement, but have never had to use it. my personal experience with marathons is that they are the smoothest best tracking trailer tire i have used in my forty years of towing a boat around AZ and MX. they are a little more expensive but the best usually cost a little more.I do keep my trailer on jack stands in the winter and have covers of sunbrella i have sewen up to keep uv rays off.also coat with a uv side wall protecterant.current set of four is four years old and still looking new with almost 20000miles. at current conditions im forecasting at least another four years and at least 40000 miless before replacement. this is just my experience thought, others may very.

Ray,
I don’t have a problem with Marathons being more expensive, if I get what I’m paying for.
On the EOpinions site there are 27 one star ratings. Even taking into account that tire failure is caused by improper inflation, that’s still a lot of complaints.
It does seem to indicate the tires were once top notch, until the production was shifted to China. That’s when the complaints seem to start.

read the eopinions, there was quite a few more complaints on that site, no aurgument there. as i said other opinions may veri. the discount tire people sell other trailer tires also,so it isn't their only available product, they have no unusual amount of complaints versus other offerings.mine are doing great but if i have a failure i will report back.
