replace signet 172 depthsounder

I have a 1988 Hunter 285 fitted with a SignetMarine 172 depthsounder which has failed. Any suggestions as to a replacement? If I change the unit, likely I will have to change the transducer which I can't seem to find under the cabin sole, though it is visible under the hull, just forward of the keel.Does anyone know where the access to the transducer is located under the sole?Thanks, Jim

Fish Finder

My transducer (on an 87 28.5) was mounted just aft and on the starboard side of center of the fresh water tank. It was forward of the bulkhead for the v-berth. You have to take out some screws to remove the panel (below the seat cushions) to gain access. I replaced it with a Raytheon 365 fish finder with bronze thru-hull. The transducer fit the existing hole in the hull.I mounted the display unit on a piece of 1/2" plastic which I was able to attach up on the original pedestal mount for the SM display. Now I have depth, speed, water temp. and fish to watch!

That was just the info I was looking for. Your suggestion of the FF is right on. I will check those out. Aloha!
